Dhardharia Falls Lohardaga — Twin Cascade 95 km from Ranchi in Jharkhand
Lohardaga's Twin-Stream Cascade — A Serene Waterfall Pair Near the District Capital
Dhardharia Falls is a twin-stream waterfall in Lohardaga district, approximately 95 km from Ranchi. Two parallel streams converge at a rock ledge and fall together into a shared pool below — an unusual formation that gives the falls their local name. The site is one of Lohardaga town's nearest natural attractions and is used as a weekend picnic spot by residents of the district capital.
Dhardharia Falls is formed at a point where two streams running in near-parallel channels meet a shared rock ledge and fall simultaneously into the same pool. The twin-stream character of the falls — two distinct curtains of water side by side — is what distinguishes the site from the many single-channel falls that characterise the Chotanagpur plateau edge. The pool at the base is wide and shared between both streams, making it one of the larger natural pools at any Lohardaga district waterfall. The surrounding landscape is open mixed deciduous forest with granite outcrops — a typical plateau-edge terrain. The approach to the falls is relatively easy compared to many Jharkhand waterfalls — about 500 metres from the nearest road through open forest. The site has no formal development beyond a rough parking area at the road end. A small seasonal flow of vendors sets up during weekends in the October–December season to serve picnicking families. Dhardharia is most naturally combined with Lavapani Waterfall (8 km away) on the same day, as both are within easy reach of Lohardaga town and both are at their best in the post-monsoon period. Lohardaga district is also the entry point for the road to Gumla and the further destinations of Anjan Dham and Palkot Wildlife Sanctuary.
