Tourist Places in Simdega Jharkhand — Ramrekha Dham, Kelaghagh Dam & Bhanwar Pahar
Simdega district occupies the southern edge of the Chotanagpur plateau where the terrain drops toward the Odisha border and the Oraon tribal community forms the demographic majority. The district is among Jharkhand's least visited, which gives its destinations a character of genuine quiet and rural authenticity that is increasingly rare in the more touristed parts of the state.
Ramrekha Dham, on the banks of the Ramrekha River south of Simdega town, is a Shiva temple complex in a forested riverine setting that draws pilgrims during Shivaratri and maintains a year-round schedule of worship without the commercial development that has accumulated at larger pilgrimage sites. The drive from Simdega town to the Dham passes through villages where red-mud Oraon farmsteads, the geometric sona-rupa (gold-silver) decorative wall paintings, and the ordered pattern of tribal agriculture are visually intact.
Kelaghagh Dam on the Karo River creates a 15 sq km reservoir in the forested terrain east of Simdega — a simple reservoir with a forest department guest house and views across the water to the hills beyond. Bhanwar Pahar, a rocky plateau viewpoint 30 km from Simdega town, provides a 360-degree view across the flat agricultural and forested landscape of the Chotanagpur–Odisha transition zone — the kind of elevated vantage point that is rare in this relatively flat district.
