It is home to the Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary (established 1954, spread over 184 sq km), Canary Hill viewpoint, Surajkund hot water spring, and Isko Village — site of prehistoric rock art estimated to be over 5,000 years old.
Hazaribagh sits at an average elevation of 615 metres on the undulating Chotanagpur Plateau, giving it a cooler climate than the surrounding plains. Canary Hill — Hazaribagh's most popular viewpoint — is a forested hilltop with a watchtower offering panoramic views of the town and surrounding sal forests, surrounded by three small scenic lakes. Surajkund is a rare natural geothermal hot water spring on the town's outskirts — a unique geological attraction with no equivalent elsewhere in Jharkhand.
