The Khunti Deer Park occupies a patch of secondary sal forest adjacent to the town, where a group of spotted deer and barking deer live in a protected enclosure that preserves the habitat character of the surrounding tribal landscape. The deer are habituated to visitors but not domesticated — they graze and move freely within the enclosure boundaries, and groups can be observed feeding in the open at dawn and dusk. The park is primarily a conservation education facility aimed at school groups and families in the Khunti district who have limited access to the state's major wildlife sanctuaries. The forest setting is pleasant — old-growth sal trees provide a shaded canopy, and the undergrowth is characteristic of the Chotanagpur tribal forest. A walking path circuits the enclosure, passing through areas where deer are consistently visible. Khunti Deer Park is best incorporated as a morning stop before proceeding to Panchghagh Falls or Ulihatu on a Khunti day trip from Ranchi. It requires only 45 minutes to an hour and provides a wildlife experience at the start of a day that might otherwise focus entirely on waterfalls or heritage.
