The Rock Garden occupies a hillside near Kanke Dam where glacial and erosional forces have scattered enormous granite boulders across the landscape over millions of years. Garden designers worked with these existing formations rather than against them, cutting pathways between the rocks, installing steps over the larger ones, and creating artificial cascades that flow down through rock channels. The result is a garden that feels more like a naturally dramatic landscape than a manicured park. Artificial waterfalls are the garden's centrepiece feature — water is pumped to the higher levels and released to cascade down through a series of rock-lined channels that wind through the garden. In the winter months, the artificial streams attract families who wade in the shallower sections. The garden also has open lawn areas between rock clusters where groups spread out for picnics. Rock Garden is almost always visited in combination with Kanke Dam, which is 500 metres away and visible from the garden's upper sections. The two sites together — one water-based, one rocky — make for a 3–4 hour outing that covers the most accessible nature experiences within Ranchi city limits. The garden is open daily and charges a modest entry fee.
