About Kanti Falls

Kanti Falls is a seasonal forest waterfall located approximately 150 km from Ranchi in Latehar district, positioned conveniently on the route between Ranchi and Daltonganj (Medininagar). The falls are created by a forest stream that drops over a stepped rock face surrounded by dense mixed forest — making it a natural stop for travellers on the Latehar corridor and a day-trip destination for residents of Latehar town, which is approximately 47 km away.

Kanti Falls emerges from the forested escarpment of the Chotanagpur Plateau as a stepped cascade — the water drops over several successive rock shelves rather than in a single freefall. In the post-monsoon period (October–November), the flow is strong enough to create a genuinely dramatic visual, though by January it reduces to a decorative trickle over mossy rock. The forest surrounding the falls is mixed deciduous — sal, teak, mahua, and bamboo — typical of the transition zone between the plateau's upper forest and the Palamu valley below. The falls are accessible from a point on the main road between Ranchi and Daltonganj, making them one of the most road-accessible waterfall experiences in the Latehar district. Travellers heading to or from Betla National Park and Netarhat regularly make a short detour to see Kanti Falls without adding significant time to their journey. A short walking trail (about 500 metres from the road) leads through forest to the base of the falls. Kanti Falls is at its most impressive from August through November. By December, the flow is moderate but the forest is still lush and the rocky formation around the falls is attractive for photography. From February onward the falls dry significantly and the site is best appreciated for its forest setting rather than the waterfall itself.
