About Lodh Falls

Lodh Falls, locally known as Budha Ghagh, is the highest waterfall in Jharkhand, located in the Latehar district approximately 60 km from Netarhat. The Budha River plunges 143 metres (469 feet) in three cascading steps, making it the 21st highest waterfall in India according to the Forest Department, Latehar. The depth of the plunge pool at the base has never been formally measured.

Lodh Falls sits deep inside the Chotanagpur plateau forests of Latehar district, far from any major town, which contributes to its unspoiled character. The falls are located within the buffer zone of the Palamau Tiger Reserve ecosystem, and the approach road passes through pristine tribal forest. A Buddhist monastery near the falls is the reason for its local name 'Budha Ghagh'. The thundering sound of the falls is audible from over 10 km away when water volume peaks in October and November. The Latehar Forest Department maintains a clean, plastic-free zone around the site, including a deposit system that returns ₹10 to visitors who carry their water bottles back out.
