Tourist Places in Latehar Jharkhand — Lodh Falls, Netarhat & Betla Forest
Latehar district sits at the western edge of the Chotanagpur plateau where the terrain rises toward the Netarhat highlands and the forest deepens into the Betla tiger reserve corridor. The district is the access point for two of Jharkhand's most significant natural assets: Lodh Falls — the highest waterfall in the state — and Netarhat, the plateau settlement at 1,128 metres known as the Queen of Chotanagpur.
Lodh Falls (also called Burhaghat Falls) drops 143 metres in a single unbroken column — the highest waterfall in Jharkhand and among the tallest in eastern India. The approach involves a 2 km forest trail from the road, and the falls are most powerful and photogenic between October and December when the seasonal volume is at its peak. The surrounding Latehar forest — continuous sal and bamboo — gives the approach its character.
Mahuadanr Wolf Sanctuary, in the northwestern section of Latehar, is one of India's few protected areas established specifically for the Indian wolf (Canis lupus pallipes). The wolf population survives in the grassland-forest edge habitat of the sanctuary, and sightings, though possible, require patient and quiet observation from approved safari routes. The sanctuary's ecological significance extends beyond wolves to include hyenas, wolves, and the broader dry forest ecosystem of the Koel–Damodar watershed.
