About Maromar Forest Treehouse

Maromar Forest Treehouse is a government-operated forest rest house and treehouse accommodation inside the Palamau Tiger Reserve buffer zone, located at 1,615 feet elevation in Latehar district, Jharkhand. It is situated between Netarhat (approximately 60 km east) and Betla National Park (approximately 50 km west), deep in the forest wilderness along the Netarhat–Mahuadanr–Betla forest route. Originally a British-era hunting rest house, the building was renovated in 1947 and is currently operated by the Palamau Tiger Reserve.

Maromar is the most remote government-operated accommodation in Jharkhand's western forest circuit. During the British colonial era, Maromar served as a hunting camp for officers pursuing tigers, leopards, and chital in the surrounding forests. The treehouse — constructed on stilts looking out over the forest boundary — is the primary accommodation. At night, Maromar offers complete darkness, complete silence broken only by forest insects, flowing water from a nearby stream, and the ambient sounds of an active tiger reserve forest. Mobile phone networks are absent. Leopard and wild boar territories surround the rest house. The Mirchaiya Falls — a beautiful, rarely visited forest waterfall — is a short drive from Maromar and makes an ideal morning excursion.
