About Meghahatuburu

Meghahatuburu is a SAIL mining township and hill viewpoint adjacent to Kiriburu in the Saranda Forest hills of West Singhbhum, approximately 200 km from Ranchi. At an elevation slightly higher than Kiriburu, Meghahatuburu's name translates to 'cloud-touching hill' — reflecting its elevation in the fog-shrouded Saranda hills. A beautifully maintained SAIL garden and an artificial lake within the township compound provide amenities that complement the extraordinary natural setting.

Meghahatuburu and Kiriburu are 8 km apart on adjacent ridges of the Saranda hills, linked by a forest road that passes through sal woodland with frequent wildlife sightings. While Kiriburu is more widely known, Meghahatuburu is often considered the more scenic of the two — its slightly higher elevation means it is in cloud or mist more regularly during the monsoon transition months (September–October), creating an atmospheric highland experience that the name 'cloud-touching hill' perfectly captures. The SAIL garden at Meghahatuburu is maintained with considerable care — flowering trees, ornamental plantings, and well-kept pathways create a green oasis within the mine township. The garden's artificial lake reflects the surrounding forest and sky, and the overall quality of the natural environment management within the township is remarkably high for an industrial settlement. SAIL guesthouses at Meghahatuburu are available for overnight stays. From the viewpoint above the township, the Saranda Forest stretches to the south into Odisha — the state boundary runs through the forest below, but the ecology is continuous. On clear winter days (December to February), the view extends 40–50 km across the treetops, and the rolling character of the Saranda hills ('seven hundred hills') is fully visible from this vantage point.
