Latehar district's forest landscape — dense sal and bamboo on the Chotanagpur plateau, drained by numerous streams that fall over the plateau edges — produces seasonal waterfalls that are accessible with moderate effort and provide genuine wilderness character without requiring the distances involved in reaching the major falls at Lodh or Hundru. Sanjay Falls forms where one of the Latehar plateau streams drops over a sandstone ledge. The fall height varies between 15–25 metres depending on the exact season, with October–December producing the highest flow and the most powerful visual effect. The approach through dense sal forest is part of the experience — the trail follows the stream through bamboo groves and under the sal canopy before the sound of falling water announces the approach to the falls. The pool below the falls is accessible in the dry season and provides a natural bathing spot in a completely forested setting. The forest around the falls retains good biodiversity — leopards and wild pigs are present in the broader area, though wildlife observation requires patience and early morning visits. The bird community along the stream approach is active: kingfishers, drongos, forest eagles, and a range of understorey species in the dense bamboo. Sanjay Falls is best visited as a half-day trip from Latehar town, combined with other Latehar district attractions in a day circuit.
